Psalm 23:2 (ESV) ~ “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.”

1. Come to Me and Rest – Finding Ultimate Rest for the Soul and Body

In a world that never stops moving, rest often feels like a luxury we cannot afford. Deadlines, responsibilities and the constant noise of life leave us weary, drained and longing for peace. Yet, rest is not simply about sleep or taking a break ~ it is about renewal. It is about finding strength in stillness and hope in the presence of God.

From the very beginning, rest was part of God’s design and foundation. After six days of creation, He Himself rested on the seventh day. This divine rhythm reminds us that rest is not weakness, but wisdom. It is the pause that allows our bodies to heal, our minds to reset and our souls to reconnect with the One who sustains us with the oil that lubricates us.

After all, we are no Wonder Woman to think we can operate in our natural strength and never crash. Even Wonder Woman herself, as depicted in DC’s comic books was not relying on human strength alone, she was portrayed as half‑human and half‑god. (NB: This illustration is borrowed only as a cultural reference, not to promote any ideas about gods or demi‑gods.) The truth is, we cannot depend on our own strength indefinitely. We need the rest that comes from God: the kind that renews us from the inside out.

As children of God, we are invited into a deeper kind of rest not only for the body, but for the soul. Jesus says: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28–29) Finding Rest In God: How Jesus Can Give You Rest – LivingPraying.com . In our exhaustion and dehydration of strength: The Shepherd leads us beside still waters (Psalm 23:2). He promises perfect peace to those whose minds are stayed on Him (Isaiah 26:3). This is the rest that restores, renews and strengthens us to keep walking faithfully in the midst of life’s demands.

“Even Jesus rested — a reminder that divine strength flows through surrender and stillness.”

2. Learning Rest from Jesus and Leaning on The Holy Spirit

Mark 4:38 sets an example for us about Jesus Christ 40 Bible Verses About Finding Rest In God (With Commentary) – The Bible Outlined. Even Jesus, clothed in our earthly vessel felt the need to rest. We see Him asleep in the boat while the storm raged. In other parts of scripture, we see him often withdrawing to quiet places to pray and be alone with the Father (Luke 5:16). This is a powerful example: if the Son of God, who carried divine authority, allowed His body to rest, how much more should we?

David writes in Psalm 121 that “He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” God Himself never sleeps, so that we can. He keeps watch over us while we rest, ensuring our safety and renewal. A God who never sleeps | The Up Devotional

Rest flows first from leaning on the help of the Holy Spirit. When we trust His comfort and guidance, we realize we don’t have to carry life’s loads alone. This births rest in our souls, then in our hearts, minds and finally in our physical bodies. Jesus’ invitation to “Come to Me” is not just about laying down burdens, it is about learning to lean on the Spirit, trusting the Word of God Hope in The Word – herservicehub and finding renewal in His presence.

Remember my example about Wonder Woman? Let me take you back to it again, that Wonder Woman, was having and relying on her supernatural powers she gained through her father Zeus. (NB: This illustration is borrowed only as a cultural reference, not to promote any ideas about gods or demi‑gods.) The point is clear: we cannot rely on natural strength indefinitely. We need divine rest, sustained by the Spirit. Jesus Christ himself relied on the Spirit from his Father in heaven, as it should apply to us as well. We should also come to an awareness that the Holy Spirit is not only our Helper but the supernatural Spirit we inherited from our heavenly Father Elohim through his Son Jesus Christ that enables us when we become weak and tired.

3. He Leads Me Beside Still Waters

Scripture “He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.” — Psalm 23:2

Encouragement~ The Shepherd knows when His sheep are weary. He doesn’t drive them endlessly; He leads them to rest. Green pastures symbolize nourishment and abundance, while still waters represent peace and refreshment. This verse reminds us that God Himself provides the calm we need when life feels overwhelming.

Resting in Him is not idleness – it is renewal. It is the place where our souls are restored, our strength renewed, and our hope revived. When we allow Him to lead us, we discover that true rest is not found in escaping life’s challenges, but in trusting His presence in the midst of them. Take a minute to say this prayer with me:

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank You for the gift of rest. Lord, I thank You for being my Shepherd who leads me to places of peace. Teach me to lie down in Your presence, to drink deeply from the still waters of Your Word and to find renewal in You. Restore my soul today and let me walk in the strength that comes from resting in You through the support of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Name I pray- Amen.

Conclusion – Rest in the Lord

Rest is not weakness; it is wisdom. From creation itself, God modeled rest on the seventh day, teaching us that renewal is part of His divine rhythm. Solomon’s reign was marked by rest on every side, showing that peace allows growth and flourishing. David reminds us in Psalm 4:8 that we can lie down and sleep in peace because the Lord makes us dwell in safety. Isaiah 26:3 assures us that perfect peace belongs to those whose minds are stayed on Him.

Jesus Himself invites us: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28–29). This rest is not only for our bodies, but for our souls. It is the kind of rest that renews strength, restores hope and revives joy. When we lean on the Holy Spirit, our Helper, we discover that we do not carry life’s burdens alone. He sustains us when we are weak, comforts us when we are weary and empowers us to rise again.

Yes, people say we will rest enough beyond the grave. But the only rest we are promised is the one found in Christ Jesus — both now and forever. Revelation declares that one day He will wipe away every tear, we will hunger and thirst no more. Until then, He renews our strength daily. When we wait on Him, we will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not faint.
